How will you make an impact?

This position has three primary responsibilities. Primary role – buyer with a focus on applying analytics as basis for planning and carrying out all phases of the purchasing and procurement process, including cost savings. Secondary role- inventory management and reductions to achieve company’s target. Additional role – support departmental projects and process improvements, Key Performance Indicators scorecard reporting analysis.

What will you do?

Essential Functions:

  • Manages and strategically performs spend assuring legal, quality, timing and brand image is maintained.
  • Champions the use and development of standard procurement practices and procedures and applying strategic sourcing principles.
  • Manages Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) information and place orders, reschedule, and expedite accordingly, ensuring maximum cost/quantity/delivery optimization.
  • Provides support for all new product development initiatives.
  • Reviews, tracks and manages change orders. Ensures purchase orders and inventory are managed to minimize scrap and production downtime.
  • Supports outsourced activities such as sourcing, vendor management, contractualization, coordination and monitoring of purchasing inputs and status against order.
  • Maintains purchasing data integrity of system by continuously monitoring purchase and item parameters and revision levels.

Inventory Management

  • Analyzes demand, inventory levels and supplier capabilities in an effort to identify, plan and implement inventory reduction plan to reach targeted inventory levels.
  • Establishes pro-active plans to prevent undesirable inventory accumulation. Optimizes safety stock, monitoring Slow Moving and Obsolete (SLOB) stocks.
  • Achieves monthly inventory turns target.
  • Supports inventory count and regular cycle count.
  • Identifies, recommends and implements cost savings opportunities to deliver against departmental savings objectives and tracking results.
  • Analyzes inventory and monitors supplier costs, quality, delivery and performance measurements to ensure continuous improvement and corrective action as required.
  • Supports obsolescence management initiatives by liaising with suppliers, creating reports and participating in obsolescence management team activities.

Project and Process Improvement

  • Participates in and leads projects relating to supply chain and purchasing as required.
  • Maps current processes and recommend processes improvements to the company’s operating procedures.
  • Continuous improvement and corrective action activities relating to area of responsibility.

How will you get here?


  • College Diploma in Business or Supply Chain management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Supply Chain an asset.


  • Minimum 3 years relevant purchasing and inventory management experience in a manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Certified Production and inventory control Management (CPIM), Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) preferable.
  • Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation an asset.

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of Supply Chain planning processes including purchasing and inventory management. Advanced Microsoft Office Suites (Excel VLOOKUP, pivot tables a must). Advanced ERP systems experiences (Purchasing, Inventory Management Modules) within a manufacturing environment. Proficient in MS Excel for project/cost tracking, budgeting, timeline and various spreadsheet analyses. Developed analytical and quantitative skills. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures. Effective negotiation skills and the ability to comprehend new information rapidly. Highly organized with well-developed time-management skills. Ability to assume responsibility and take independent action. Results oriented, metrics driven individual with a root cause, proactive, continuous improvement approach that “owns” the processes. Proficiency with the English language.
